 Who Needs My Apheresis Donations?

Platelets are clotting cells that control bleeding.

Transfusions of platelets are needed by:

  • Children with leukemia

  • Patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer

  • Patients needing open heart surgery and organ transplants

  • People whose bone marrow is not functioning properly.

Plasma is the liquid portion of your blood that carries cells and vital factors throughout your body.  Plasma transfusions are needed for:

  • Premature infants

  • Trauma and burn victims

  • Transplant and major surgery patients

  • People with rare blood disorders

  • People with severe liver disorders

Red cells carry oxygen and are needed by people suffering from anemia and serious loss of blood.

*The pictures shown above are twin boys, Matthew and Jason Fox of Landing, whose lives were saved by platelet transfusions when they were just a few days old.  The father of the twins, Ken Fox, is a regular platelet apheresis donor.
